About River Trips

What's the river like for paddling?

River trips vary in duration from 1.5 to 12 hrs. depending on where you choose to launch and take out. One of the more popular routes is the Rest Lake Dam to River's Edge. This section of the river takes you through a diverse waterway, including three lakes and some minor Class 1 rapids. Along the way, watch for wildlife and definitely bring a fishing pole for the smallies and musky. Beyond the beauty, folks like this one because it offers flexibility to extend the journey by up to three additional hours if the group is having a fantastic day, taking out at the Wayside Landing or 47 Landing. Extending beyond the 47 Landing, is a 4-5 hr paddle to Murray's Landing on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. There are six campsites between River's Edge and Murray's Landing.

WHAT'S THE TUBE TRIP LIKE?

The Manitowish River is just about as

Class I as it gets. Depending on the time of year and conditions, it ranges from a foot in depth to just over six feet deep. It's a super clean river with a sandy bottom virtually the whole way.  It is definitely a wilderness river, meaning you're not likely to see many other humans that arent floating or paddling.

Tube trips start at our launch with some quick safety tips and instructions, then you're off into the wilderness. Along the way look for bear, eagles, beavers, otters, muskies and, of course, the occasional moose. Be ready to paddle your way out of slow spots and be aware of fallen trees and other structure in the river. Call us at the end of your float and we'll come get you!

what do you mean by pedal 'n paddle?

This is a mashup of a couple of Northwoods favorites - cycling on our beautiful paved bike paths and paddling the Manitowish River. We meet you with kayaks or canoes to start your adventure at the Rest Lake Dam Landing in Manitowish Waters where you'll paddle to River's Edge Landing, about 2.5 hrs downstream. At River's Edge, take a break for refreshments at the lodge, then hop on an electric (or non-electric) bike for a leisurely pedal back to downtown Manitowish Waters along the Mercer/Manitowish Waters bike paths. End back at Koller Park, lock up your bikes and move on to the next adventure in our awesome resort community.

What?? So easy! So fun!

Kayak/Electric Bike $80/person

Kayak/Non-Electric Bike $60/person

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”

– Henry David Thoreau
